02 — Our Story
We don't just fix boats.
We preserve them.
Richardson Bay Boatworks & Ways was founded in 1986 by Ross Sommer, a craftsman who grew up on the water and believed that a boat is more than a vessel — it's a living piece of history worth protecting.
Nearly four decades later, Ross's son carries that same conviction. From our workshop on Marinship Way, we've cared for more than 500 vessels — each one bringing a story, and each one leaving our yard ready to write the next chapter.
We work on all sail and power yachts, with a specialty in classic wooden boat repair, complete restoration, and custom rebuilds. Every project receives the full attention of our family-owned team.
03 — How We Work
We come to your vessel and conduct a thorough assessment — hull, structure, systems, and brightwork. No surprises later.
A detailed written estimate with scope, materials, and timeline. We discuss options, answer questions, and agree on every step before work begins.
Our craftsmen get to work — by hand, with care, in our Marinship workshop. You'll receive regular updates and have full access throughout the process.
Every vessel goes through a rigorous sea trial before it leaves our yard. Delivery includes full walkthrough and ongoing support.
04 — Recent Work
Ross and his son understand boats the way woodworkers understand grain — with a kind of knowing that can't be taught, only inherited. My family has trusted them with every major refit for twenty years.
